What is it with my Youth Academy?
It must have churned out more than 50 youths (not to use the word talent) so far and there has been one that was worth training. (back to him later).
My team trains riders that would probably not trained in many teams. We train
teammates
leadouts
specialists for one or two races a season
and we would train types like
downhill time triallists
Climbing Flat Road specialists
downhill cobblers.
That is to say our demands are not that high. We scout about 20 riders a season and end up training 2 - on average. That is 1 out of 10.
In the talent feature, we are at 1 to 50.
Strange.
No whining either, but sometimes you open and it is again a 24 yo climber with 1 AVG, 2 Small and a lot of Nones....
PS: The one guy ever trained was Tom Salter, a German who showed up in spite of our regional focus on Central America (back then). But he was 19, he had incredible potential - and he maxiculated at 73 :).
